Get Moving for Mental Health: Finding Calm Through Yoga
Jordanna Campbell | APR 23, 2024

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year's theme, "Get Moving for Mental Health," highlights the profound impact physical activity can have on our mental well-being. While I'm sure you all know that the physical benefits of yoga are only one of the many amazing benefits that it offers I thought I'd take the opportunity to quickly revisit why it's such a powerhouse for mental well-being:
And that’s just for starters! Its combination of gentle movement, controlled breathing, and mindfulness techniques can help calm the mind, improve mood, and increase resilience to life's challenges.
But for me, yoga holds a deeper significance. I discovered it after navigating the most difficult and destabilising chapter in my family's life. My daughter Sash faced severe mental health challenges that led to her spending a year in psychiatric care.
After returning home (still struggling), and desperate for relief from anxiety, despair, and self-hate, she discovered yoga. Its transformative power became evident very quickly, sparking my curiosity and marking the beginning of my own journey alongside hers
In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, I invite you to put yourself first and take 30 minutes a day to prioritise your own mental wellbeing. Throughout May, I am offering free access to my Morning Yoga Membership, where each class will focus on techniques for calm, stress relief, and cultivating inner peace.
If you're interested in joining me for some, all, or a combination of mornings in May, please send me an email with the phrase "Moving for Mental Health" in the subject line to express your interest, and I'll send you details on how to get started.
In a world where mental health struggles are all too common, let's come together to prioritise self-care and well-being. Together, through movement and mindfulness, we can navigate life's challenges with greater strength, resilience, and compassion.
Join me this May, and let's move toward a brighter, more peaceful tomorrow, one breath at a time.
