I won't mince my words—I despise the 'New Year, New Me' cynics on social media.

It seems their sole purpose is to stifle positivity and discourage others from seeking change. It's akin to the dominant personalities in school who make negativity appear cool. While cynicism may seem amusing, it's a trap, anchoring you to the present and smothering your dreams of transformation.

In the midst of 'New Year, New Me' cynicism, it's easy to sense the weight of eye rolls and scepticism. But what if we redirected our focus from the naysayers to the untapped power within us?

Change is possible.

Change has happened.

Reflect on your past.

Allow me to share a personal example of change. Despite my current status as a paragon of health, fitness, and purity, there was a time when I proudly maintained a 40-a-day cigarette habit. For many years, I had no inclination to quit. I fashioned an identity and a narrative around being a smoker, connecting with fellow smokers who shared our mutual 'healthy disregard for life.' (Yes, I'm rolling my eyes at myself and feeling simultaneously embarrassed).

Yet, I changed. I proved to myself it could be done.

So have you. Whether you believe it or not, you have numerous examples over the years of things you've changed. You're more likely to remember the challenges rather than the easy victories.

Now, what does all this talk of change have to do with yoga? Well, who you are in your life is who you are on your yoga mat. You carry your attitudes, beliefs, and values with you. If you consistently practice yoga, you already understand that consistent effort and discipline lead to physical, mental, and emotional change.

As the 'New Year, New Me' haters persist in their chorus of doubt, let your story of transformation drown out the noise. Whether it's breaking the chains of unhealthy habits or defying physical limitations in yoga, your rebellion against cynicism is cause for celebration. Share your triumphs, inspire change, and let your journey be a shining example of belief in the incredible power we all possess to transform. Change isn't just a wish; it's your rebellion against the sceptics, proving that if you believe it, you can undoubtedly make it a reality.
