The Great Showdown: Intentions vs. Resolutions - A Journey to Success

In the left Croner: Resolutions, the Rigid Rule Maker.
In the Right Corner: Intentions, the Flexible Freedom Seeker.
Ladies and gentlemen let's get ready to rumble!
Every year, when January 1st rolls around, a battle begins, and it's not the clash of titans, but the eternal struggle between New Year's Resolutions and Intentions. But why is it that Intentions seem to have the upper hand in this contest? Why do they often out perform their more rigid counterpart, Resolutions? Well, I'm going to attempt to break it down.
Round 1: The Flexibility Factor - Why Intentions Triumph Over Resolutions
Resolutions come into the ring with a stern face, declaring things like, "I will lose 20 pounds" or "I'll go to the gym every day." It's like they're armed with a whip, ready to crack it when you falter. Intentions, on the other hand, saunter in wearing flip-flops, saying, "I intend to prioritise my health and fitness."
Why the laugh-worthy difference? Well, life has a sneaky way of throwing curveballs. When you have a resolution, you're either on track, or you've failed. Intentions, however, are like rubber bands; they bend and stretch to accommodate the unexpected chaos life brings. Missed a day at the gym? No problem! Intentions let you get back on that horse with a grin.
Round 2: The Guilt Game - How Intentions Offer a Kinder Path to Progress
Resolutions have a love affair with guilt. Miss a workout, and they glare at you from the corner, shaking their heads. Eat a couple of forbidden biscuits (oops I mean the entire packet), and they whip out the metaphorical ruler to smack you with. Intentions, on the other hand, simply say, "Hey, it's cool. Life's too short not to enjoy a packet of biscuits or two now and then."
Why is this important? Guilt is like quicksand, pulling you down when you falter. Intentions, with their sense of humour, help you laugh it off and get back on track. After all, what's the point of self-improvement if it doesn't come with a side of laughter?
Round 3: The Yoda Effect - Why Intentions Embrace Progress Over Perfection
Resolutions are all about "do or do not, there is no try." If you don't check all the boxes, you've failed. But Intentions are more like wise old Yoda, telling you instead, "Try, you must. Progress, it brings."
Why does this matter? Because Intentions recognise that life is a journey, not a checklist. They appreciate every small step forward, every mini-victory, and every stumble as part of the adventure. Resolutions, in contrast, can make you feel like you're either a superhero or a complete failure, with no middle ground.
Round 4: The Love Story - How Intentions Promote Self-Love and Growth
Intentions are all about self-love. They whisper, "You're already awesome, but let's make things even more awesome." Resolutions, though, often come from a place of self-criticism, saying, "You're not good enough, and you need to fix yourself."
Why is this funny? Well, it's like the difference between having a pep talk with a motivational speaker and getting berated by a strict drill sergeant. Guess which one you'd rather listen to?
Round 5: The Durability Test - Why Intentions are Your Lifelong Companions
At the end of the year, when you look back, Intentions are like that trusty old friend who's been with you through thick and thin, cheering you on. Resolutions? They're the demanding boss who you're glad to be rid of when December 31st comes around.
Why Intentions win this contest is clear: they're sustainable. They encourage self-improvement as a lifelong journey, not just a once-a-year sprint.
So, there you have it, folks. Intentions may not have the strict structure of Resolutions, but they're like a comfy pair of trainers that you can walk with for a lifetime. As you embark on your journey of self-improvement, remember that a little humour and a lot of flexibility can go a long way. Who knew Yoda had it right all along? (even though they must have cut that scene from the film). May the force of Intentions be with you!
