the journey

Confession time: I used to scoff at the idea of hosting a yoga retreat. It seemed like a Herculean task, something I thought I'd inevitably mess up, and who would even show up if I miraculously managed to pull it off?

However, all it took was one transformative weekend on someone else's retreat to turn me from scepticism into a fervent believer. In the span of 12 hours, I went from "never in a million years" to hearing the words of Yosser Hughes repeat themselves like a mantra in my head: "I can do that." No delusion there 😂

I wasn't planning on doing a one-day retreat. I mean, what would be the point in that??? I had much bigger plans. I stepped out of my weekend retreat imagining creating something similar but much better, obviously. The pendulum of self-confidence is forever in flux. Luckily for me, my husband and friend Liz both stepped in with the suggestion that just maybe I could create a one-day retreat!. Reality won that round.

Fast forward three weeks - I secured a venue, finalised catering, arranged the sound bath, and sold all 20 tickets in less than 12 hours. What an unexpected twist in the journey that was. It has truly made me reflect on the value of one-day retreats as a game-changer for both organisers and participants.

For the Yogi Participant:

Accessible Wellness for Busy Lives:
In a world that never seems to slow down, committing to an entire weekend retreat can be daunting. A one-day retreat provides a convenient and accessible option for busy individuals who struggle to carve out extended periods for self-care.

Low-Commitment Exploration for First-Timers:
For those new to the retreat scene or unsure about diving into a full weekend, a one-day retreat offers a low-commitment opportunity. It's like dipping your toes into the retreat waters before taking the plunge, making it an ideal choice for yoga enthusiasts testing the retreat waters for the first time.

Time-Efficient Reset and Recharge:
Life often demands quick fixes and on-the-go solutions. A one-day retreat serves as a time-efficient reset button, allowing participants to recharge and rejuvenate without the need for a prolonged absence from daily responsibilities.

Cost-Effective Holistic Experience:
Let's face it, not everyone has the budget for an extended getaway. A one-day retreat provides a holistic and cost-effective experience that doesn't break the bank. It's a way to indulge in self-care without the hefty price tag associated with longer retreats.

Concentrated Impact on Well-being:
The condensed format of a one-day retreat doesn't dilute its impact. With a focused schedule, participants can delve deep into yoga practices, meditation, and self-reflection, experiencing profound benefits in a shorter timeframe.

For the Organiser

Perfect Introduction to Retreat Organising:
For aspiring retreat organisers, a one-day event is a manageable starting point. It allows for testing the waters, learning the ropes of organising, and gaining valuable experience without the overwhelming pressure associated with planning a longer retreat.

Community Building in a Day:
The sense of community is a hallmark of retreats, and a one-day event is no exception. Participants come together for a shared experience, forming connections and fostering a supportive community vibe, all within the span of a single day.

Flexible Scheduling for Organisers:
From venue bookings to catering arrangements, organising a one-day retreat is logistically more manageable. It offers flexibility for organisers who may have other commitments, making it a practical option for those venturing into retreat planning for the first time.

Conclusion: So, there you have it – my journey from a sceptic to a one-day retreat enthusiast. Whether you're a busy individual seeking a quick wellness fix or a budding retreat organiser testing the waters, the one-day yoga retreat has proven itself as a valuable and accessible option. It's not just a compromise; it's a powerful and transformative experience, condensed into a single day for the benefit of both organisers and participants alike. Consider it the express lane to wellness and community-building, because sometimes, less really is more.

it's fascinating how the mere contemplation of hosting a retreat and the subsequent journey, even before the event itself, has been transformative. My evolving perspective and the mental shifts experienced speak volumes about the impact this process is having on me. The anticipation and preparation alone seem to have opened new doors of understanding and growth. It goes to show that sometimes, the journey is just as enlightening as the destination.
