Yoga Unveiled: Why a Beginners Course is Your Ticket to Zen

Jordanna Campbell | AUG 10, 2023

Welcome, dear reader, to the mystical realm of yoga – a place where your body contorts, your mind contemplates, and your inner peace is somewhere, hopefully, in the vicinity. Today, we're here to unravel the complexities of the yoga universe and understand why diving into the serene waters of a random yoga class might just feel like jumping into a pond with a blindfold on.

You see, embarking on a yogic journey is like stepping into a whimsical garden of physical and mental exploration. But beware, not all gardens are well-tended. Imagine entering a yoga class where the teacher is so deeply engrossed in their own asanas that they might as well be auditioning for Cirque du Soleil. Your humble attempts at mastering the warrior pose are met with a mere nod, as if to say, "Ah, another mortal lost in the battlefield."

And let's not forget the language barrier. Sanskrit, the ancient language of the yogis, is lovingly sprinkled throughout the class. As you contort your limbs into positions that resemble twisted origami, the instructor blissfully calls out asanas with names that sound like the incantations of a lost civilisation. "Virabhadrasana? What?" you mutter, trying not to lose your balance or your sanity.

In this alternate reality, physical cues seem to be as mythical as unicorns. While you're left puzzling over whether your downward dog should resemble a bridge or a frustrated cat, the teacher continues their gravity-defying performance, impervious to your earthly struggles. Is that hand supposed to be there or somewhere near Mars? It's anyone's guess.

The cherry on top of this circus sundae? It’s that the class that you thought would be your serene sanctuary turns into a perplexing puzzle that would make even a Rubik's Cube nervous. Twists, bends, and stretches are thrown together like ingredients in a mad scientist's potion, leaving you to contemplate whether you've accidentally stumbled into an advanced acrobatics workshop.

You came to find peace, to cultivate strength and flexibility – not to question your life choices while attempting a pretzel-like position that defies the laws of human anatomy. Alas, your tranquillity is now competing with the sound of your inner monologue screaming, "I just wanted to touch my toes, not rewrite the laws of physics!"

So, dear reader, before you consider enrolling in that random yoga class, let me offer you a well-placed signpost on your yogic journey: Start with a Beginners Yoga Course. If you're a novice yogi, someone who's yet to discover the joys of a perfectly aligned downward dog or the bliss of a calm mind, taking that beginner's route might just be the compass that steers you in the right direction. Seek the sage advice of fellow beginners, read reviews as if they're treasure maps, and remember that while yoga might be an odyssey, you don't want to end up in the Bermuda Triangle of misaligned poses.

In the end, remember that finding the right yoga class is like discovering a secret garden where the poses make sense, the cues are clear, and the teacher doesn't moonlight as a trapeze artist. So, before you channel your inner acrobat, make sure your yogic journey is filled with more "ohm" and less "uh-oh."

And if and when you are ready for your beginners yoga course, I know just the course and teacher for you 😜
